Ji-hoon (Rain) entered the world in Seoul, South Korea, on June 25, 1982. He possesses a younger sibling known as Hana. Jung claimed that he was extremely shy and hardly spoke in primary school.

When he was in sixth grade, there was a dance competition, and no one was there to participate in the competition. So Jung Jihoon tried it himself by copying the motions he watched on TV. This is when he realized he wanted to be a dancer.

He looked for more experienced street dancers to learn from, who taught him on occasion but also intermittently subjected him to bullying and physical abuse. Rain and his younger sibling, Hana, enjoyed a comfortable life until the onset of the Korean crisis in 1997, which resulted in the collapse and bankruptcy of their father’s milling and bakery enterprises. Due to his father’s bankruptcy, Rain’s mother, who struggled with diabetes, was left after he fled to Brazil to seek out new chances. During that year, Rain was employed as a trainee at JYP Entertainment, overseen by producer and recording artist Park Jin-young.

Rain served as Park Jin-Young and Park Ji-Yoon’s backing dancers during his early years of singing and dancing training in Korea. When he was in training, Rain didn’t spend a lot of time at home.
