Riona Was Cruelly Set on Fire — After a Year of Healing, She’s Finally Heading to Her Forever Home

The cruelty some animals endure at the hands of humans is truly heartbreaking. Last year, a gentle dog named Riona suffered unimaginable torment when her owner deliberately set her on fire. Now, after a year of recovery, Riona is finally finding peace and love as she moves to her forever home.

In June, a horrifying scene unfolded in Nutbush, Tennessee. Residents watched in shock as Riona, a pitbull mix, ran through the streets covered in flames. The strong smell of gasoline filled the air, leaving no doubt that this act was intentional.

“All you could smell was gas,” shared Mallory McLemore of Bluff City Veterinary Specialists during an interview with Memphis Commercial Appeal.

“She was burned and covered in diesel fuel,” added Ginger Natoli, founder of Tails of Hope Dog Rescue, in a Newsweek interview. “It was clear she had been set on fire, as witness statements confirmed.” Natoli further revealed that a neighbor’s ring camera captured the harrowing moment when Riona ran down the street engulfed in flames.

Despite her severe injuries, including the loss of one ear, Riona’s quick medical treatment saved her left eye. Tails of Hope Dog Rescue stepped in to provide her with a safe haven while she began her lengthy journey toward recovery. Bluff City Veterinary Specialists played a vital role in her healing, administering full-body wraps twice daily to protect her fragile, healing skin.

After enduring so much pain and displaying unshakable strength, Riona is finally moving forward. She’s joining a new family who will provide her with the care and affection she deserves.
