Early Life of Queen Rania
Rania Al-Yassin, or, as she is better known today, Queen Rania of Jordan, was born on August 31, 1970, in Kuwait City. She was the daughter of Palestinian parents, and her father, Faisal Al-Yassin, had decided to move to Kuwait as a practising physician in the late 1960s.
Besides this fact about her paternal heritage, her maternal roots included Turkish ancestry, adding variety to her background that shaped her early years. She showed a high aptitude for academics, was a good scholar, and had a passion for learning, which stood her in good stead even when she went on to look for higher education abroad.
She received her graduate degree in business administration. This was an early period marked by great political upheaval, as the Gulf War of 1991 forced Rania and her family, like many other Palestinians, to leave Kuwait. She would later join them in Amman, Jordan, where she completed her education.
She began her professional career working in marketing roles. Her first positions were at Citibank and then as an executive at Apple Inc. in Amman, Jordan. These in-job experiences helped her develop professional skills and laid a foundation for later public and leadership roles she assumed as queen.
