Santa isn’t the only one flying through the skies this season. NASA has announced five asteroid approaches.

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) recently revealed details about the “next five asteroid approaches” to Earth.

As NASA works on plans to retrieve a $10 quintillion asteroid, smaller space rocks are making their way past Earth. Among them, an asteroid known as 2024 XN1 will pass by tonight (December 23).

This asteroid, roughly the size of an airplane at 120 feet, will reach its closest point to Earth at 10 PM EST.

According to MailOnline, the asteroid will zip past Earth at a staggering speed of 14,743 mph.

Despite the high speed, there’s no reason for concern.

Asteroid Passing at a Safe Distance

The closest approach of 2024 XN1 will be approximately 4,480,000 miles from Earth.

Astronomer Jess Lee from the Royal Greenwich Observatory assured MailOnline, “It will be very far away, around 18 times further than the Moon is from Earth. With this predicted path, it won’t come close enough to hit Earth.”

Assistant professor of space and international relations at Johns Hopkins University explained to Newsweek why these objects are called “near-Earth objects” (NEOs). NEOs are asteroids or comets with a perihelion distance—closest approach to the Sun—of less than 1.3 astronomical units (AU), which equals about 120 million miles.

An asteroid is considered “potentially hazardous” if its orbit crosses Earth’s orbit by less than 0.05 AU, or about 4.5 million miles. Martin Barstow, a professor of astrophysics and space science at the University of Leicester, added that an asteroid also needs an absolute brightness of 22.0 or less to pose significant regional damage.

“Not all NEOs are potentially hazardous, but all hazardous objects are NEOs,” Barstow stated.

Upcoming Asteroid Flybys

If you miss tonight’s event, don’t worry—more asteroids are on their way.

On Christmas Day, an asteroid the size of a bus will fly by Earth. Another, the size of an airplane, is expected to pass on Boxing Day. Finally, a second bus-sized asteroid will make its flyby the day after Boxing Day.

Tessa, Tarz, Stevie, and numerous other adoptable canines at the Save-A-Dog Scheme, Inc. shelter in Victoria, Australia, welcomed Christmas early this year. Their guardians made sure they experienced the holiday spirit in their own unique way, even though they are still looking for forever homes.

Just last week, the shelter staff decided to surprise these hopeful pups with a variety of gifts to choose from. Each dog was given the chance to select their favorite toy.

While it might seem like a small gesture, the excitement and joy on the dogs’ faces were priceless.

One by one, the dogs eagerly engaged in the fun. Some approached the task with cautious curiosity, while others dove in with boundless enthusiasm. Every dog’s unique personality shone through during this heartwarming activity.

In this heartwarming video, you can see how each pup responded to the presents, some gently sniffing and choosing, while others excitedly pawed at the toys. Their individual traits were on full display, showcasing the joyful and carefree side of these animals.

Truth can often outshine fiction with its sheer strangeness. The world is full of eerie, baffling stories that defy explanation. These tales, rooted in reality, can seem like they belong in horror novels or urban legends. Yet, their authenticity makes them even more spine-chilling.

“My little sister and I went camping in the woods when we were kids. We’d seen this bald guy with a blue shirt and a dog walking around, which isn’t unusual for the area. For some reason, though, I just got this tight feeling in my chest, and my sister must have too, because we both just gave each other this look. I don’t know what it was that made me do it, but I took a photo of the back of him as he was walking away.

A while later, we see the same guy AGAIN near the lake. He comes over and asks about the tent we’re carrying, where we’ll be setting up, and if we are camping with our dad. We say yes, we’re just going to see him now (a lie). We walked off up a fork in the path until we were out of view, then jumped down a path hidden by the bushes and waited behind them on the parallel trail for a bit.

The guy watched us walk off, pretended to play with his dog until he couldn’t see us, then turned around and ran up the path after us. Thankfully he didn’t see us hidden and carried on up straight where he thought we’d gone. We decided camping was a bad idea and went home.

That evening, my mum showed us a post in the local residents’ group, which was a picture of the same bald guy trying to break into someone’s house.”

A Gathering Almost Ends in Disaster

A family reunion took a horrifying turn when intuition saved lives. An approaching storm darkened the skies as they brought everything indoors. Something about the atmosphere felt wrong—a foreboding that one man couldn’t shake. He urged his family to leave immediately, even before the rain began.

Moments later, as the car engine roared to life, tornado sirens blared. Everyone scrambled to safety. The rented building where the barbecue had been set up was destroyed by the storm.

A Close Encounter at Home

“Wednesday midday run along a beautiful river pathway near my apartment block. About 1km in, I felt people watching me and directly turned around and ran home (even though I did NOT see anybody!). Closed the two magnetic gates leading up to my door and didn’t see anybody around or follow me.

About 10 minutes later, two guys were at my front door trying to push it in. I was luckily on the other side of the door at that moment and pushed it back closed with all my force and began screaming. I managed to security lock the front door and text my apartment block for help. I was on the second floor, and they obviously watched which apartment I went into.

Looking back at the apartment’s security cameras, they were able to see the two guys pull apart the magnetic security gates, two of them! The block then quickly changed the gates to a mechanic lock that cannot be pulled apart.”

A Suspicious Encounter

I was driving home from visiting family further south. In order to get into Fallbrook you have to travel along this long dark and windy street called Mission Road. It’s already a super dark night, about 11 pm, and it’s a little foggy as well. I’m slowing down and coming around this slight bend in the road, and all of a sudden the hair goes up on my neck, and I feel incredibly anxious.
About 5 seconds later, a young woman jumps out of the brush directly ahead of me on the left-hand side of the road, while waving her arms in the air and gesturing frantically for me to pull over. I swerved a bit to the right, slowing down even further – but I did not stop. She was young, maybe early 20s or even late teens, and a little dirty, and I was immediately conflicted over continuing to drive. But something told me not to stop under any circumstances.
I got further up the road, slowed a little more, and dialed 911 with one shaky hand. The dispatcher said she’d send someone to check, but encouraged me not to feel badly. Apparently, there had already been calls about this girl over the last hour, and they were unable to find her when police followed up. I heard a few weeks later about some carjacking/robbery attempts in the area. Very relieved I listened to my instincts that night.

Ominous Visitors

Standing outside my friend’s house watering their garden while they were away on vacation. Not even 30 seconds after I shut the door and locked it about 6 men started pounding on the door, reaching in the mail slot trying to unlock it, telling me to come out.

Split-Second Decisions

A Falling Tree

Sitting in my friends’ backyard with their two kids, my husband, and another friend, enjoying pizza that my host made. It was a beautiful, clear day with no real wind. We were having a great time, just out of the pool and hungry for pizza when I suddenly felt on edge. I looked straight at the kids (about 8 and 10 or so years old) and just said, ‘Get in the house.’

We all scrambled and a second later we heard creaking, and maybe 5 seconds after it started, this big branch fell off of their pine tree onto the table where we were sitting. Thankfully, no one was hurt besides having to pick pine needles out of our pizza. I can only assume that I subconsciously heard the branch starting to give.

Lightning’s Warning

I was hammock camping while riding my motorcycle through Arkansas. I had a dream that I was getting pulled over by the cops on my bike. The flashing lights were super bright in my eyes. As I woke from my dream, I noticed my blue hammock tent was lighting up like flashing police lights!
I immediately felt an adrenaline spike and went into full flight mode. Packed my things up faster than I could even put my boots on. Hopped on my bike in my underwear and rode a mile to the top of the campground where the showers were.
The second I stepped into the shower cabin, the sky opened up and cloud-to-ground lighting started striking trees in the campground every 10–15 seconds. I could have been hit by a lightning strike had I stayed sleeping between two of them.

A Dangerous Disguise

When we were in our teens, my sister and I were walking our dog in our local forest area, very close to our childhood home. We were about to leave and had just clipped our dog back up when a lady appeared out of nowhere and started chatting to us. She was…odd. She told us her dog would love some socialization with our dog and could we go back with her for five minutes.
What I hadn’t clocked, but my sister had, was that her dog was nowhere to be seen. The lady was almost rounding us up to head back towards the forest when (little did I know) my sister had spotted a van out of the corner of her eye. I was still oblivious at this point.
Suddenly, my sister screamed ’DAD!!’ and to our luck, my dad had finished work and was now out on a run. He started waving and running towards us and as we turned back around the lady had vanished. My sister looks back over at the van and sees the lady closing the passenger door and speeding off. The dog is still nowhere to be seen.

Underwater Terror

I was scuba diving in Asia – 3 of us went to a reef that hadn’t been dived on before, which bottomed out at 50-70M depth. 5 minutes into the dive, we all got a very bad feeling like we were being watched. Ignored it, but the feeling wouldn’t go away.
Further 10 minutes into the dive, we all watched the silhouette of a white shark glide slowly past, right on the periphery of where we could see. Then glide back in the other direction a minute later. The decompression stop to get out was the scariest 3 minutes of my life.

A Roar in the Night

I was camping in Eastern Arizona with a friend of mine. We found a place probably 14 or 15 miles deep into the forest on small quad/bike trails and set up camp for the night. We put out our fire and go into our tents.

Probably about 15 minutes go by, I’m reading a book on my phone and what can I only describe as a roar sounds like it’s about 50 feet away from our campsite. Never in my life have I been so terrified. My friend and I both get out of our tents, look around (and don’t see anything because it’s dark), but run as fast as we can and just hop in the car.

I will never forget that sound. I’ve seen bears in real life and looked up what a bear roar sounds like, and it was nothing like it. Whatever made that noise definitely didn’t want us there.

When I was a teenager, me and some friends were hanging out around midnight. A caravan drives past slowly with a few people looking out the windows, we all look at each other quietly, and the caravan pulls into a nearby parking space. We all get up and walk to our bikes because something feels really off.
A few minutes later we heard someone shout and as I turned around there were about 5 or 6 people getting out with metal pipes and other things in their hands. We ran so fast, nothing happened, but I’m 99% sure we were about to get beaten and robbed.

Late at night, a group of teens noticed a caravan circling their area. Their unease proved warranted when several men emerged with weapons. They fled just in time, avoiding what seemed like a planned attack.

We were driving back from an impromptu family vacation. My husband and I were both driving cars (too many people, not enough alert drivers) and I was following him. We were in the left lane passing a truck and I suddenly had an overwhelming feeling that we needed to slow way down and move over immediately. I called him and told him that we needed to get over, go slower than the truck, and turn our hazards on.

Suddenly we ran into a freak ice storm and the truck slipped off the road, the car that went past us on the left slid into oncoming traffic, and 3 other cars behind us proceeded to slide off the road. There was a big dip on the side of the road and one of the cars even tipped over. We somehow came through unscathed and made it home safely

One twin embraced Botox regularly, while the other chose a natural approach.

A pair of identical twins has shared fascinating insights after nearly two decades of choosing drastically different paths for their skincare routines. One twin underwent consistent Botox treatments, while the other opted for a more natural lifestyle.

The initial study, led by author William J. Binder, was published in 2006. It followed identical twin sisters, then aged 38, over 13 years. One twin received Botox injections in her forehead and glabellar region (between the eyebrows) two to three times annually.

In contrast, her sister only tried Botox twice—once in 1999 and again in 2003. Binder revisited the twins in 2012 to further analyze the long-term effects as they reached 44 years of age.

How Does Botox Work?

Botulinum toxin, commonly known as Botox, is injected to block nerve signals that cause muscle contractions.

The treatment temporarily paralyzes targeted muscles, relaxing facial muscles responsible for wrinkles like forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines. Botox can also address neck spasms, excessive sweating, and migraines.

Visible Differences After 13 Years

By 2006, Twin 2 had received at least 26 Botox treatments since starting at age 21. Her skin appeared smoother with shallower forehead wrinkles. On the other hand, Twin 1, who only tried Botox twice, displayed deeper lines on her forehead and noticeable crow’s feet when she smiled.

Changes After 19 Years

The follow-up study nearly two decades later revealed even greater contrasts. At age 44, Twin 2’s wrinkles around her eyes and mouth were less pronounced than her sister’s.

Meanwhile, Twin 1’s jawline appeared fuller, but it remains unclear whether Botox played any role in this change.

Other Lifestyle Factors

While Botox usage was the major difference, the twins also lived in distinct environments. Twin 1 resided in Munich, Germany, while Twin 2 lived in Los Angeles, California.

Despite their locations, both led active outdoor lifestyles, worked indoors, and used daily sunblock. Neither smoked nor underwent other skin-tightening procedures like lasers or light therapy.

The study emphasized: “Consistent long-term treatment with onabotulinumtoxinA [Botox] seems to be the only major difference in the lives of these twins.”

Study Findings

Binder concluded that regular Botox use might prevent imprinted lines by relaxing muscles and subtly altering behaviors.

“With long-term treatment, patients may adjust to reduced muscle contraction, eventually ‘learning’ to avoid excessive movement,” Binder explained.

He further noted that relieving pressure from constant muscle tension might promote dermal remodeling over time.

He is extremely intelligent.

This year, students at Cecyte Nuevo León, a junior high school in Mexico, have gained a new and unusual companion. Each day, without fail, a friendly local dog arrives on campus to join them during their breaks.

“When the recess bell rings, he comes running to play with the students,” Lydia Sanchez, the school’s principal, shared in a post.

Although the students love the dog’s visits, his preferred type of play comes with consequences.

The dog, who likely belongs to a family living near the school, has one favorite activity: chasing and catching the soccer balls that the students kick to him. However, he often gets a little too enthusiastic, causing almost every ball he touches to pop. Even after being deflated, the balls are still enjoyable toys for the dog.

“We can’t even count the number of balls he’s popped,” Principal Sanchez told The Dodo.

Most of the time, the students don’t mind this behavior. But last week, it became a problem.

The students realized they had only one unbroken ball left to use. To prevent the dog from destroying it, they decided to close the school’s playground gate, keeping the ball-popping pup out until they could replace their damaged supply.

When the dog arrived and saw the closed gate, he seemed to understand the reason. He left the area, visibly upset. Later, he returned, this time carrying a ball of his own—a deflated one—but still an offering to make amends.

“Seeing him come back with his ball to play filled me with emotion,” Sanchez said. “He is extremely intelligent.”

Thankfully, the dog’s brief banishment didn’t last long.

The school has replenished its ball supply, a necessary expense to ensure everyone—both the students and the dog—remain happy.

Now, the situation at the junior high school is back to normal. And as long as Sanchez has any say in the matter, the dog will never again face expulsion for popping balls.

“He’ll always be welcome here,” she assured.

According to reports, Mangione is currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, where Diddy is also incarcerated on sex trafficking charges.

Mangione, aged 26, is accused of shooting and killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Johnson in what authorities claim was a targeted attack. Johnson was shot twice in the back and once in the leg as he left the Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan earlier this month.

Following the shooting, authorities received a tip-off from a McDonald’s employee in Altoona, Pennsylvania, who reported spotting a man resembling Mangione. The tip led to his arrest.

New York prosecutor Alvin Bragg addressed the press this week, stating that Mangione’s actions were intended to instill fear and chaos.

“This was a terrifying, well-orchestrated, and deliberate murder meant to cause shock, attention, and fear,” Bragg remarked.

The prosecutor continued, highlighting the danger to the public: “It took place in one of the busiest parts of our city, endangering residents, tourists, commuters, and businesspeople as they went about their day. The goal was to create terror.”

Marc Agnifilo, who is also representing Diddy in his criminal case, appeared in court on December 19 to inform the judge that he would be representing Mangione as well.

According to sources like CNN and ABC News, Mangione is detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center, the same facility where Diddy is being held.

A criminal indictment unsealed on December 19 revealed that the charges Mangione faces may allow prosecutors to seek the death penalty, though it remains uncertain whether federal authorities will pursue such an extreme measure.

The New York Times reported that the final decision on the death penalty will likely rest with the attorney general, with a resolution expected after Donald Trump takes office in January.

Under New York law, a terrorism charge—filed against Mangione—can be brought when an alleged crime is meant to intimidate or coerce the civilian population, influence government policy through force, or affect governmental actions through violent crimes such as murder or kidnapping.

While many have condemned Mangione’s actions, a small group on social media has attempted to justify the alleged murder. In response, New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch denounced these defenses as “vile.”

“There is nothing heroic in what Mangione did,” Tisch said firmly. “We don’t celebrate murder, nor do we glorify killing anyone.”

A pair of identical twins begun an experiment to discover how different diets might affect the body—and the results may be surprising.

There’s no universal approach to diet that works for everyone.

Harvard University experts suggest eating a balanced mix of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, proteins, and healthy plant oils.

Many individuals, however, experiment with intense diets like Keto, Paleo, or Intermittent Fasting in hopes of reaping health benefits.

But do specific diets really change the body? That’s what identical twins Hugo and Ross Turner set out to find.

The two, who share identical genetic material, wanted to test whether their bodies would react differently to two contrasting diets over the course of 12 weeks.

Partnering with Kings College London, Hugo committed to a vegan diet, while Ross followed a plan that included meat, dairy, and fish.

Before starting, the Turner twins were instructed to consume the same number of calories daily and perform identical workouts—making diet the only variable in the experiment.

During an interview with the BBC, Hugo admitted that the vegan diet took a toll on his body early on.

“I think the first couple of weeks, I was really craving meat, dairy, and cheese. I love cheese,” he shared.

Nevertheless, he later acknowledged the benefits of eliminating animal products.

“By eating fruit, nuts, and dairy-free alternatives, I ended up consuming much more wholesome foods. This helped stabilize my sugar levels throughout the day, and I felt more energized,” Hugo explained.

On the other hand, Ross, who ate meat, noticed his gym performance fluctuated.

“Some days I felt extremely energetic, but other days I experienced huge energy dips,” he said.

However, Hugo did notice a significant drop in the diversity of his gut bacteria, while Ross’s gut microbiome remained steady, making Ross less susceptible to illnesses.

Ultimately, the twins concluded that there wasn’t much difference, if any, between the two diets.

In her initial response to the backlash on December 6, Welch tried to defend the coin’s launch. She shared a message with her followers on Twitter, which read: “Hawkanomics: Team hasn’t sold one token and not 1 KOL was given 1 free token. We tried to stop snipers as best we could through high fees in the start of launch on @MeteoraAG. Fees have now been dropped.”

After remaining silent for two weeks, investors who lost money in the coin’s collapse decided to take legal action. A document filed on behalf of the affected investors explained that the lawsuit “arises from the unlawful promotion and sale of the Hawk Tuah cryptocurrency memecoin, known as the ‘$HAWK’ token, which Defendants offered and sold to the public without proper registration.”

A tragic accident during a hunting expedition has led to the death of a Virginia man when a bear he shot fell from a tree and landed on him.

The shocking incident took place when Lester C. Harvey Jr., a father of five, was part of a group of hunters who had chased a bear up a tree. What seemed like an ordinary hunting trip quickly took a devastating turn.

Following an investigation by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, the circumstances surrounding Harvey Jr.’s untimely death were revealed.

According to the department’s findings, the hunting group had managed to corner the bear, forcing it into a tree. As they stood around, observing the animal, the decision was made to shoot the bear. Harvey Jr., who had moved back approximately 10 feet to what he believed was a safe distance, was tragically struck when the bear fell after being shot.

The father-of-five, from Phenix, Virginia, was hit by the bear upon its fall. Despite the immediate attempts by his fellow hunters to administer first aid, Harvey Jr. was transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition. Unfortunately, after several days, he succumbed to his injuries.

Lester C. Harvey Jr. was remembered in an obituary as a dedicated contractor, passionate outdoorsman, and a friendly, approachable man who “never met a stranger.” He leaves behind his wife, three sons, two daughters, and eight grandchildren.

The flight departed from Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow, Russia, heading to Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport shortly after midnight. Danilov was accompanied by First Officer Igor Vasilyevich Piskaryov, who had logged 5,885 flight hours, and Relief Captain Yaroslav Vladimirovich Kudrinsky, who had 8,940 hours of experience.

Onboard, the captain’s two children were on their first international flight with their father, unaware of the catastrophe that was about to unfold.

While the plane was cruising on autopilot, most passengers were sound asleep. However, things began to take a fateful turn at 00:43, when Kudrinsky’s 13-year-old daughter sat in her father’s seat and began adjusting the autopilot’s heading. She was attempting to simulate flying the plane.

At 00:51, Kudrinsky allowed his 15-year-old son to take control of the aircraft. The exact reason for this is unclear, but it’s believed that he may have assumed the autopilot would negate any effect the teenager’s actions might have.

However, at 00:54,when the teenager manipulated the control stick for over 30 seconds , exerting up to 10 kilograms of pressure, he unintentionally contradicted the autopilot’s settings, which had been maintaining the aircraft’s stability. The boy’s actions changed the flight control settings to manual, unbeknownst to anyone aboard.

As the autopilot fought to regain control, it clashed with the boy’s inputs, which soon increased to 12 and 13 kilograms. This ultimately resulted in the disconnection of the autopilot servo from the aileron control linkage.

The crew, unfamiliar with the Airbus setup, failed to notice a crucial non-audible warning light. They were more accustomed to flying Russian-built aircraft, which led to a series of oversights. The plane began to bank, and with the autopilot unable to maintain altitude, the aircraft’s wings tilted at an increasingly dangerous angle.

In a desperate move, Captain Kudrinsky ordered the co-pilot to take control as he moved his son from the cockpit. The situation worsened when, after adjusting the seat and re-engaging the autopilot, the bank angle had reached 90 degrees. At this extreme angle, the Airbus A310 was unable to recover.

The pilots struggled to regain control of the plane, which now began a steep climb before stalling. The aircraft then spiraled out of control, plummeting rapidly toward the ground.

The descent continued as the aircraft veered off its intended flight path, dropping below the minimum safe altitude over mountainous terrain. At 00:59, air traffic controllers in Novokuznetsk attempted to contact the flight for a position update, but the aircraft had disappeared from radar.

At 00:58, just two minutes after the critical moment, Flight 593 crashed at a high vertical speed of approximately 160 mph into the Kuznetsk Alatau Mountain range in the Kemerovo Oblast region of southern Russia. Tragically, all 75 people on board died.

Though Aeroflot initially denied any fault on the part of the flight crew, it was forced to change its narrative after a leaked copy of the cockpit voice recorder transcript revealed the true cause of the tragedy.
