Mia Khalifa, the former adult film star, has left many of her fans shocked after revealing her real name. In doing so, she also shared the story behind the stage name she chose when she entered the adult industry.
Khalifa is one of the most followed personalities on social media. With millions of followers across platforms like TikTok, Instagram, X, and Facebook, she has made a huge impact. She also earns a significant income from her OnlyFans page, where 22 million subscribers pay for her exclusive content. Reports suggest she makes up to $6.4 million (£5.07 million) every month.
However, this success came after a very brief time in the pornography industry. Khalifa spent only a few months in the adult film world, creating a small number of films. Her career was surrounded by controversy, particularly after her first movie in which she wore a hijab during explicit scenes. This led to backlash in her native Lebanon, where she was vilified, and even death threats from the Islamic State.
Despite the short-lived nature of her adult film career, Khalifa became a huge name, topping Pornhub’s search rankings multiple times.
Fans were surprised to learn that her stage name isn’t her real one. The name Mia Khalifa was actually created when she first entered the adult industry.
Khalifa explained that after getting breast enhancement surgery at 21, she was approached by a man in Miami who offered her the opportunity to do nude modeling. She decided to create a stage name for the occasion. She combined the name of her dog, Mia, with that of her favorite rapper, Wiz Khalifa. She liked both his music and the fact that his name “felt Arabic,” she told Bustle.
Interestingly, the adult film company she worked for, Bang Bros, also encouraged her to wear a hijab for her infamous scene, which led her to react strongly, saying, “You motherf**kers are going to get me killed.”
Khalifa’s real name is Sarah Joe Chamoun, which she briefly listed in her Instagram bio before removing it after fans noticed. Some fans expressed surprise, commenting, “How stupid do you feel believing her real name was Mia Khalifa?” While others remarked, “Everybody knows Mia Khalifa isn’t Muslim, and that’s not even her real name. She’s actually Sarah Joe Chamoun, not all Lebanese people are Muslim.”
It’s worth noting that Khalifa was raised as a Catholic, further clarifying the misunderstanding surrounding her background.
