In the post, he admitted that he couldn’t even remember his middle name but was pretty sure it was “something dumb.” In a lighthearted plea titled Macaulay Culkin Needs A New Middle Name, he asked his followers to send in suggestions for a new middle name. He promised to take the best option to the courthouse, asking his fans to help him pick something “cool.”
At the time, Culkin was already married to The Suite Life of Zack & Cody actress Brenda Song. His followers jumped in, sending him hundreds of creative ideas for his new name. After reviewing the options, Culkin shared his top five favorites: Publicity Stunt, TheMcRibIsBack, Kieran, Shark Week, and, of course, Macaulay Culkin.
The Poll and the Winning Name
Culkin decided to let his fans vote for the winning name by creating a poll on his website. In a playful post, he joked, “Sure, I might have gold-plated watercraft and chrome-plated invisibility cloaks, but all I want for Christmas is a new middle name. And then you can be all, ‘Oh, you got your wife a beautiful portrait of your family? Well, I chose Macaulay Culkin’s middle name.’ And they will cry and cry.”
The fans voted, and the result was clear. The name that won by a landslide was Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin. With a total of 60,990 votes, Culkin had found his new identity.
Culkin’s New Legal Name
On Christmas Day, Culkin shared the big news on X (formerly Twitter). “Merry Christmas to me, from all of you! My new middle name has been chosen. You voted, and the winner is clear. In 2019, my new legal name will be: Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin,” he wrote. He added, “It has a nice ring to it (if you like my name).”
While the new name is certainly a mouthful, it’s hard to deny that it’s iconic. Culkin’s playful engagement with his fans has left everyone talking, and now, he’ll be forever known by his new moniker.
